Drum and bagpipe group "Auļi" and ethno music group "Tautumeitas" have joined forces to create a unique music album " Lai māsiņa rotājās". Albums theme is dedicated to a very important period of person's life - marriage and wedding. The powerful sounds of "Auļi"'s bagpipes and drums represent masculinity, whilst "Tautumeitas" softer sound but still expressive multipart singing represent femininity. Just as newly weds need to learn how to live together after the wedding, "Auļi" and "Tautumeitas" search for ways in which to respect and compliment each other on their musical journey.

Etnotranss

In their third album Etnotranss the bagpipe and drum music group Auļi are going on a conceptional journey of initiation through the underworld, travelling through time and various stages of passion, fear, power and friendship, meeting on their way mythical companions, transforming themselves several times and returning wiser and stronger. The well-known Latvian writer Laima Muktupavela has written texts for each of the pieces, which can be read while listening to the music and thus create an associative background.

Auļos

In their second album the bagpipe and drum group Auļi are introducing more of their own compositions, that have been inspired by  different situations in everyday life - such as jamming in an elevator, or having a sleepless night. There are also traditional folk songs and melodies, such as the Midsummer song "Līgojami" sung by the opera singer Sonora Vaice.

ABOUT US

The Latvian bagpipe and drum music group “Auļi” was founded in 2003. The group that consists of six bagpipers, three drummers  and one bass player, creates unique sounds by mixing ancient and modern elements.

Musicians themselves have named their music style etnotranss (ethnic trance). While geting inspired by the nature and melodies  of ancient Latvian folk music, they create new compositions filled with the energy of rock and dynamics of the world music.

The music suits well not only in the atmosphere of folk music  concerts, but also in medieval, folk-metal festivals and in various open-air events.
